Terminal security breach causes delays at Adelaide Airport as passengers have to be re-screened

Adelaide Airport is experiencing significant disruption this morning due to a security breach at the terminal which resulted in the complete evacuation of all passengers and staff from the gates. As a result, everyone on site is having to be re-screened, leading to long queues and potential delays to travel.

Representatives from the Australian Federal Police and aviation safety officials are currently managing the situation on the ground.

Adelaide Airport has issued a statement on the situation:

Adelaide Airport is currently investigating a security breach in the main terminal which occurred at approximately 11am this morning (29 July 2024).

The breach is said to have been the result of passengers entering the terminal on a regional flight without being adequately screened.

An orderly evacuation of the terminal has taken place and passenger screening will resume shortly.

This may cause delays. Passengers are requested to check with their airline for the latest flight information.

We apologize to our customers who experienced any inconvenience this morning. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

This scenario mirrors a similar event that occurred in October 2022, when a failure of a piece of security equipment led to the evacuation of the airport at around 10 a.m. on the 11th.

If you are travelling today, you are advised to arrive at the airport earlier than normal to allow for possible delays due to the enhanced security measures.

As the airport works to address this breach and minimize disruption, further updates are expected to be issued. Passengers and those planning to visit the airport are encouraged to stay informed via the airport’s official communication channels.
