La Union transfers P9M to public elementary and secondary schools

The La Union Provincial Government (PGLU), led by Governor Raphaelle Veronica Ortega-David, has transferred financial assistance worth P9,060,000 to the La Union Schools Division (Lusdo) of the Department of Education.

The turnover took place during the kick-off ceremony of Brigada Eskwela 2024 at Paringao Elementary School in Bauang on July 18, 2024.

With funding from the Provincial School Board’s Special Education Fund, all 453 public elementary and secondary schools in the province received P20,000 each. The amount was earmarked for school beautification projects and activities, in preparation for the resumption of classes on July 29 and August 5.

PGLU also distributed workbooks for mathematics, language and science worth over P9 million.

The financial support was received by Jorge Renante, Director of the Schools Department of DepEd La Union.

The event was also attended by La Union Second District board members Henry Balbin, Cynthia Bacurnay, Bronson Rivera, Harold Sibuma and other partners and stakeholders.

One of her key focus areas in strengthening the education sector was to promote a safe, positive and stimulating learning environment by encouraging collaboration.

“This is timely as every July we celebrate School Safety Month, where we collectively ensure the safety of our students’ learning environment through our active collaboration with Department of Education Region 1, La Union Schools Division and all our other partners,” she said.

This is now the third year that the PGLU has awarded financial aid to public schools in the province as part of the annual Brigada Eskwela, as Ortega-David is determined to maintain inclusive and quality education for every KaPROBINSYAnihan student.

Last year, PGLU allocated 6.7 million pesos to all public and integrated schools in the province.

“Our hope is that the education and youth sector will continue to flourish in the coming year, because here in La Union, no one is left behind. If you want to be able to become a sector, you can do it,” Ortega-David said.

She promised to improve the quality of education and elevate the delivery of education services in the province as this will determine the future of the youth. (PR)
