Is There a NASCAR Race Today? Why the NASCAR Cup Series is on a 2-Week Break

play

The NASCAR Cup Series is on hiatus for the next two weekends, an Olympic hiatus that occurred every four years during the past Summer Games.

With NBCUniversal covering the Paris Olympics from start to finish this week, there’s little room for NASCAR racing on NBC, USA Network or other Comcast channels.

So NASCAR teams will have a summer break, a rest period before the final four races of the regular season and the 10-week playoff period into the fall.

Here’s what you need to know about NASCAR’s Olympic Break and the rest of the 2024 Cup Series season:

NBC, USA Network and affiliated networks will broadcast the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris daily, with coverage throughout the day from July 25 through August 11.

No, despite the desire of some in the sport to see more downtime in the season. Under the new TV deal, NBC and its affiliates will televise the final 14 Cup Series races of each season through 2031. It’s possible the Olympic break could return in 2028, though the NBC portion of the schedule could begin around the same time the Olympics conclude.

NASCAR returns to Richmond Raceway on Aug. 11, the same day the Olympics conclude in Paris, France. The Craftsman Truck Series returns to the same track on Aug. 10. The Xfinity Series has an extra week off, returning to Michigan on Aug. 17.
