Collision between three vehicles causes long delays during rush hour

A three-vehicle accident on the A34 in Oxford caused lengthy delays during rush hour this morning (Monday 29 July).

Police were called to a multi-vehicle collision on the northbound carriage between the Botley Interchange and the Peartree Interchange at around 9am.

According to AA, there were delays of up to 20 minutes, with traffic moving at about 10 mph.

Drivers were told to ‘find an alternative route where possible’ while the incident was dealt with by police and National Highways.

One of them had to be closed after the collision, but was reopened at 11:30 am.

A Thames Valley Police spokesman said: “We were called to this collision involving three vehicles just after 9am today (July 29) but have now left the scene as the collision has been transferred to National Highways.”

Police confirmed that no one required medical treatment following the crash.

It comes after the RAC warned motorists of a “weekend of misery” with millions of people expected to take to the roads at the start of the summer holidays.

The RAC predicted that 13.8 million motorists in the UK would go on holiday between Friday (July 26) and Sunday (July 28).

According to this estimate, this weekend would be the second busiest summer holiday weekend since 2015.

Only 2022 is later, when 18.8 million people took to the roads during a heatwave and after two years of Covid lockdowns.
