DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE Exceeds Opening Weekend Box Office Expectations, Breaks More Records

The final figures are in Deadpool and Wolverine‘s opening weekend, the Marvel Studios threequel ultimately exceeded expectations with a stunning $211 million debut at the North American box office. That’s $6 million higher than yesterday’s estimates of $205 million.

With the sixth-biggest three-day opening weekend of all time, this third installment becomes only the ninth film in history to gross more than $200 million.

Perhaps the craziest thing is that Deadpool and Wolverine will surpass LoganThe entire $226.3 million will be sold later today; then, within days, it will be over Deadpool2 ($324.6 million), joker ($335.5 million), and Death Pole ($363.7 million).

$1 billion is certainly within reach, especially since early signs point to it becoming the highest-grossing R-rated film ever next Sunday (breaking a record held by The Passion of Christ (for more than 20 years).

At the worldwide box office, a 3-day weekend means $211 million Deadpool and Wolverine has grossed over $444 million in 5 days. In the UK, it blazed its way to the highest-grossing opening since Barbie last summer. It also broke the record for the biggest opening for a film with a rating of “15.”

As you can imagine, AMC Theatres, Cinemark and IMAX are all thrilled with the performance.

AMC Theatres CEO Adam Aron tells The Hollywood Reporter: “It is certainly great news for those who care about AMC that with Deadpool & Wolverine we had the highest ever opening weekend attendance and the highest ever opening weekend box office revenue for an R-rated film in AMC history.”

Sean Gamble, president and CEO of Cinemark, added: “We are proud to report that Deadpool & Wolverine delivered Cinemark’s biggest summer opening weekend ever, delivering record results across premium formats and the highest weekend in concessions revenue since the pandemic.”

Finally, IMAX CEO Richard Gelfon shared: “Deadpool & Wolverine delivered one of the best Imax opening weekends ever, continuing our strong start in the third quarter and solidifying our momentum for a fantastic slate in the years to come.”

The sky’s the limit for this one and we’ll just have to wait and see how high it can go. We can imagine Disney and Marvel Studios are already considering more R-rated superhero movies (Sheet is seen as next) and must now realize that there is a huge demand for these X-Men characters.

It’s a goddamn masterpiece.”

Deadpool and Wolverine is now playing in theaters.
