Initiative aims to provide young people with essential digital skills

Yesterday, Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) launched a three-day workshop titled ‘Preparing youth for the digital age: building capacity in low-code and no-code technology to close the ICT skills gap’. This workshop aims to address the digital skills gap and encourage participating youth, with a focus on youth and women, to participate in the digital economy regardless of their educational background.

UTB Vice Chancellor Datin Paduka and Professor Dr. Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman emphasised the role of the workshop in training digital creators and supporting Brunei’s technological vision.

Dr. Adel Smeda, ICT Science and Technology Expert at the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), highlighted the organization’s commitment to closing the ICT skills gap by providing access to low-code and no-code technologies. The goal is to build an inclusive community of innovators and collaborators from diverse backgrounds.

The Guest of Honour, Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad, Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education, reiterated ICESCO’s commitment to closing the ICT skills gap by providing access to technologies and striving to create a diverse, welcoming ecosystem of creative thinkers and teamwork-oriented individuals from different walks of life.

The workshop curriculum includes an introduction to low-code and no-code technology, hands-on experience with the glide no-code platform, building simple web applications, natural language processing, best practices, security aspects, and group-oriented training.
